I'd echo what Benjamin said. When I was ready to format my e-book, I downloaded the Smashwords style guide and followed the instructions carefully. It's clearly written, so if you take your time it should be fairly straightforward. As a bonus, formatting as per the Smashwords style guide also gives you a book that uploads to Amazon with no problems.

Very best of luck with it - be sure to blog about it again when it's available.

Someone just posted a thread here in the last couple of weeks on how to do it yourself. There are also companies that will do it. A Google search should turn them up.

That's a little question with a big answer. What I would do is head to Smashwords.com and get the Style Guide, which outlines how to format a document for e-book. The direct link is here: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52

If this is your first time doing this type of formatting, it can be a bit intimidating. If you've got a solid grasp on Microsoft Word, you should have fewer problems.

When you're done formatting the manuscript, I'd upload it into Smashwords, which distributes to all the major e-book retailers (Barnes & Noble, Sony, Apple, Diesel and Kobo, but still not Amazon to my knowledge).

Best to you, King, you're about to jump into the uncharted waters of the e-book world. And welcome to CrimeSpace!

We've had some threads on that subject in the past.  You might look in the archives.
