Hey, I just needed to fit this in today. I am a big fan of Stuart Woods, and will admit to having read all his novels, all of them. I saw this was coming out and I figure, why break my streak. I went through this
quickly and laughed almost from beginning to end for many reasons. The title
for one, it should have been Santa Fe Soap Opera or As Stuart Woods Turns. Don’t
miss understand me, I am not hating on it. I think it was just what I needed in
a seriously heavy week of reading so many thrillers and taunt reads. This was
none of that. Here is a score card and maybe you can connect the dots:

Ed Eagle a Mexican Jail Warden Cupie Vittorio Barbara

A Golfer’s dead wife a movie producer an airplane pilot/hit man Tim the pro golfer

One billion dollars Teddy Fay Holly Barker Lance Cabot Todd Bacon a luxury car salesman

One bisexual embezzler

By my count that is 16 different characters that Woods balances throughout the novel, and yes I am counting the money as a character because the way he was throwing it around in the novel you would think it was
another person. His plotline bounces back and forth throughout and it lends
itself to farcical humor and witty dialogue. This is tongue in cheek the whole
time, or at least I hope so, that is how I took it. The way it starts and ends
are two totally different novels. I thought I was getting an Ed Eagle vehicle; this was anything but. Ed is in it, but mostly
on the sidelines. The description on the cover as I have reread it at least 4
times is not what I would phrase an apt description of this novel. Stuart Woods’
best work, no, but it has its moments and whimsy. If you are a fan go into it
with eyes wide open, more soap opera than legal thriller or detective novel. If
this is your fist run at Woods, I am putting an asterisk by this one. You can
check these items off as characteristic of the read: entertaining yes, cute yes,
and shake your head a lot, yes. Next question you have for me is: Did I buy it?
Did I get it as an ARC? No, I got it from the library and I have already
returned so the next person can try to enjoy it.
