Still on the road, so the question is, why aren't all gas pumps and credit card readers set up the same way. How hard could it be to standardize so the newcomers to your business don't have to puzzle it out? Okay, that's two questions, but still.

It would make way too much sense. Same reason different publishers use different methods of denoting which book is a REAL first edition. Same reason the numerical key pads on calculators and telephones are NOT set up the same way. We have a pneumatic tube system where I work - to go from number 1 to number 3, one must press the arrow which points DOWN - is that not counterintuitive or what?
