We eventually drove all the way to yellowstone and back, and I told her if I had to live in any of the tonws and cities we passed throuhg, I'd pick Salina. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there (ate dinner at Martinelli's, near the medical center), and it's about the size city I like: big enough to have some services, small enough to still feel like a town.

To some extent, his series inspired me in the 80s to write a Japanese series similar to his. The intention lasted only until my character, Akitada, took on a life of his own. There are probably still similarities, especially in the earlier books, but slowly these are disappearing.
