Nancy,
Sorry I took so long to get back with you. December was very hectic, as my family came down to visit for two weeks. Then it was back to work, hitting the floor in a run. And still is. I do accounting and taxes for a living. Right now, it's a madhouse in this office: end of month, end of quarter, and end of year, plus corporate taxes, and personal taxes. I will be in up to my neck until April.
Thanks for inviting me to be your crimespace friend. Love your site. Your choice of reading is admirable. Great writers.
Thanks for the invite. I see we share some authors that we read. I don't get the opportunity to log onto this site as much as I would like - but I will have a browse on your page. M
Since you're in LA, consider coming up to Victoria BC in June of 2011 for Bloody Words, Canada's premier mystery conference. I'll be co-chair.
If you might be interested, drop me a note at louallin@shaw.ca and I'll add you to my list for updates. We should have our first website page up by this May.
Hi, Nancy. Thanks for the friend invite and for the info above for the web site. My next project is going to involve a fictional county police department, and Police Facebook might come in handy for some things I'd like to be sure and get right.
Hi Nancy. Your profile page looks interesting. Given a few of the authors you like that I've enjoyed, I'm just gonna have to go read some of those others too, the ones I'm not familiar with like Thomas Perry and Ray Banks. I always appreciate having my library expanded - thanks!
Thanks Nancy for the contact. As others have commented on your book list, here's my pennyworth: why not spread your wings and venture beyond the US of A? Only one non-American writer (Val McDairmid). Try Rankin, Fossum, Mankel, Andriasson, Temple, Maitland, Browne and so many more, including the original police proceduralists Sjowall and Wahloo. You could even look at my own - one published, a second finished and the third well on its way. All the best, Tony B
Hi Nancy. (First off - that's a great photo!) Are you actually IN law inforcement? I see you live in LA. I know a lot of crime writers who would love to know and talk to someone like you for research on their books. Do you ever do that sort of thing? What do you write? I don't see a book title on your page; does that mean you're in the process? I'm not a book author, but I do write for a newspaper, and do a lot of book (and theatre) reviews. I've reviewed some pretty good law inforcement and forensic books. I love reading Michael Connelly's Det. Harry Bosch books. His newest - The Brass Verdict - has his Det. Bosch character as well as his Lincoln Lawyer guy. Anyway, thanks for the invite!

Hi Nancy,
You're my first friend on Crimespace and I appreciate your welcome. I don't normally write crime fiction, but my recent book, Savage Days Haunted Nights, availible now on Amazon.com, definitly deals with criminals, the threat of murder, the savagery of loan sharks, etc., but I must let you know it's not formula fiction. The crimes featured in this book are starkly realistic and as chilling as it gets. But there are other striking messages in this tale no less dramatic and gripping than hunting down murderers. However, murder's in the air from almost the first page of this story to the last.
Thanks for your interest.

Hello Nancy,
I'm proud to be your friend. I took a moment and read some of the comments others have placed on your Comment Wall & I agree with Russ Heitz: you have a nice assortment of authors listed as your favorites. Since Dash Hammett is dead and Robert Parker (despite his prolific skills) cannot write a new Spenser book every week, I'm going to check out some of the authors you mentioned. Lwrence Block is another I enjoy very much: his Matthew Scudder books are a little rougher than Spenser - but I find them enjoyable. Have you read WHEN THE SACRED GINMILL CLOSES? Are you a cop?! I'm a retired social worker, unsuccessful at marketing a book about a social worker last year. I can appreciate why people wouldn't want to buy it - but it helped me get rid of some demons. Are you going to the Love Is Murder conference?

Nancy, I worked for 17 years at the Fresno Co. Sheriff's Dept. Most of that time was spent as Girl Friday with an undercover narcotics team. Our office was a double-wide trailer in a nectarine orchard! I lived to tell the tales. "Fools Rush In" is about a major meth dealer we busted. "Where Angels Fear" is about a sex club (we thought it was a vegetable store). The book is coming out in Feb.

Happy New Year, Nancy! Weird but true: For years people approached me and called me 'Nancy.' They soon discovered their mistake, and I had no idea who they were. Too bad I didn't know you then, I could've advised them all to go to LA.
