Interesting that your crime novel is set against the background of bushfires. I did a book tour to San Diego in late October and arrived just in time for the worst of the fires and evacuations. Nothing like being able to see the air you breathe -- a challenging time for all. Have you actually been caught in a bushfire?
Hello Jackie,
nice to meet up - and with another Victorian Author! Terrific. I'm compiling a list of books to read over the Christmas holidays, so will check out The Burning. Sounds great idea.
Cheers,
Brian
Thanks for the invite. Crofting can be fun - sometimes. Winter isn't actually too bad, if we have snow, it is when its wet (as now) and the haar sits permanently over us (as now), that it gets a tad tedious. There is something about wet sheep that stays with you. Kubotas are fun tractors, though quite right, modern. My oldest is 1947 (ish) a grey Fergie which originally had a petrol/paraffin engine that at some stage in its life got the perkins P3 engine put in. I love it, I had a mini version in my farm set as a kid - now I got the real thing. My most "alarming" toy here is the JCB Sitemaster 3CX digger, that is a heap of fun - your husband might consider getting one of those to add to his collection. As for the science, for someone from an "art" background, it is proving to be a huge challenge, I seem incapable of writing "scientifically" - e.g. I likened DNA and mRNA to Batman and Robin in one essay. My tutors are despairing I think. You seem to have managed the transformation from science teacher to novelist - excellent, well done. If I get stuck with my oceanography course this coming year I'll know who to turn to.
Oh darn - we should have worked out some sort of signal and met up to say hello. I went in with my next door neighbour, met her husband there as well and the 3 of us wandered off to the Sofitel for lunch. It was a magnificent day wasn't it. I wrote up the session at http://www.austcrimefiction.org I enjoyed it so much.
Jackie,
Cool, you're my first Aussie friend. I used to have some "actual" Kiwi friends, but we've lost touch over the years. It is one of my dreams to visit your part of the world (when I get that 6-figure advance for my next book!)
Thanks Jackie. I am attempting to confirm the value in networking to satisfy my interest and researching and writing about transnational and national crime. Given my interest can you and anyone that reads this comment suggest persons for me to network and get to know. I am a new author yet to be published but I am not new to enterprise and research. Suggest you google "Leutrell" and see the CNN profile so you can get some inisights on my background. Thanks Leutrell Osborne, email: "iiculture@mac.com" and 301 858 8455, Annapolis, Md. USA
Hi Jackie! Ah I know several people in both Enland and Australia--all authors, of course!! :) Nice to "meet" you and thanks for inviting me to your group. Marta

I don't get here as often as I'd like. Thanks for inviting me to be your friend.
