Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”
Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."
Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"
Book Synopsis:
The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.
Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.
The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.
Thanks for asking what Death Will Sober is about, Barri. :) It's about a guy who wakes up in detox on the Bowery on Xmas Day and realizes he'd better change his life, but he's afraid he'll die of boredom if he drinks again, so he investigates a murder. :) I just found out the book's available for preorder on Amazon, and I'm wildly excited. Thanks, Barri!
I have seen Clash By Night--I love Barbara and Robert Ryan--terrific actors.
If you want something very, very noir, try "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" with Barbara, Kirk Douglas, and Van Heflin. :)
Barri,
Just a note to advise that messages to me thought crimespace have not been getting through, so if you need, use d.hoof@att.net. If you e mail without response, suspect technical problems, not personal ones. Thanks.
Hi Barri! Great to 'meet' you. I really enjoyed STATE'S EVIDENCE BTW, and will definitely look out for you Kimani Dec. book. I have not yet read any in that line, and was just about to pick up Wayne Jordan's as well.
Yes, I'm surprised you remember. My story's been ready for a while. Oddly enough, the 'suggested' theme of past and present is the theme of my story, although that wasn't planned. I'm really hoping the anthology sells, not just for my sake, but for ACWL's sake. It's a good group and deserves more attention, in my opinion.
Thank you for adding me! I will check you out at Amazon! I've spent my limit there for this payday but I'm intrigued by your stuff. With which one should I start?
I love Laura, too, (it's a noir, after all). Jennifer Jones is actually Jennie in the movie--she and Gene are look alikes.
If you're looking for more noirish Tierney, here are a few suggestions: The Shanghai Gesture (von Sternberg directed) Leave Her to Heaven, Whirlpool, Night and the City, and Where the Sidewalk Ends (Dana Andrews is in the last). The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Heaven Can Wait are also classics, though lighter fare.

Tell me more about what you want. What sort of anthology? What sorts of stories do you have already?
