Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

If you get the chance take in Love Is Murder (always the first weekend of Feb.) I think it is one of the best cons and certainly allows you to get to know authors etc.

Hi Lois and thanks for the invite! We've probably already read each other on DorothyL. Any chance you'll go to Birmingham's Murder in the Magic City in Feb? I think that will be the next convention I'm going to (new book out in Dec.)

I always made it a point to treat our school librarians well (of course one of them was my aunt!) because they make teaching so much easier. Now I'm finding that the same is true of public librarians, who steer me in the right direction when I'm researching a novel. Currently finding out cool stuff about Vikings in Britain c. 1100AD.

We had good intentions about a wiki for procedures stuff... haven't done it yet, though. Good luck with yours!

Hi, Lois - We share a lot of favorite authors. I picked up Chris Grabenstein's Tilt A Whirl last week at Mayhem in the Midlands. He and Donna Andrews were both hilarious charity auctioneers there. I'm a mystery con lover too!

SCREAM will be released Apr 2008. If you're homesick, try the Story Behind the Story (drill down into my website for SCREAM) for the locales I used and their significance for me. I also have excerpts describing the scenes. I used to go to Ursuline Academy, near Churchill and graduated a couple of years after you, so we must have crossed paths. And I ultimately graduated from UTD (Dallas) too. Very small world.

Hey Lois---Thanks for your friendship. I grew up in San Antonio too. And my debut book is based there. I'd love to hear more about where and when if you get a chance.

Lois,

I'll be at both Malice and Bcon in 2008. I also go to New England CrimeBake. It's always a good conference, too.

Lois,

Did you go to Malice Domestic this year? That's not a far drive from Philly.

Hey Lois,
Glad we're friends. I remember that scene from HHSweet Char, and it stayed with me a while too. Much like the creepy dark-haired girl climbing out of the TV in The Ring. That still haunts me.
I think you're right about IS. It's not going to keep you up at night. It has it's moments, but it's more fun than anything.
Please let me know if you like it. I appreciate the feedback.
