COMPETITION - WIN A COPY OF THE 2010 QI ANNUAL

Amongst the many strange jobs I do, I am one of the researchers (or “Elves”) on the BBC TV panel game QI (www.qi.com/tv/).

As you may know, every year we produce a QI Annual (www.qi.com/shop/g_annual.php), full of all the fascinating and comical stuff you find on the TV show, along with illustrations by many of Britain’s leading… Continue

Mat, can I just say thank you for the very kind review you did of my latest book, 'No Kiss for the Devil' in June 2008. I've only just become aware of it, which probably says a lot about my general state of awareness, or that the Google alert chose that month to go on holiday. Anyway, thank you for the mention, which was most kind.

"Gibberish comments themselves," that should be - the computer ate a bit of my sentence, so perhaps that answers one of my questions ... Is that what happened to you, Helen Black?

I admit I’m not the most online person you’re ever going to not meet, but even so ... I do find all this a bit weird. Why do people go to all the trouble of leaving a comment on your page, and then when you reply to it ... they don’t follow it up? Look at the comments below, and you’ll see what I mean.

And look at some of the gibberish themselves - are there some people who, perhaps for religious reasons, only type when they’re drunk?

Hello, Dawn. Is there a Personal Message facility on this site? If not, leave a message for me over at the TTA Press message boards - http://ttapress.com/forum/ - where PMs are available.

Hello, mrbowski, and first of all thanks for reading all my books! That puts you in a very select group, probably consisting of you, me and my mum.

2017 is not easy to get hold of. I’ve only got one copy left myself, otherwise I’d send you one. The good news is it is still in print - I know that because I still get regular royalties on it - but it was published mainly for the schools market. As far as I know, the publishers don’t distribute it to normal, retail booksellers; instead, it is sold directly to schools.

Are you in the UK? If so, you might be able to get it through your local school library, or whoever’s in charge of book ordering at the school might be able to find a source for you. Other than that, wherever you are in the world, it could be worth trying to order it through Inter Library Loans. (At least, I hope ILL still exists: it’s a system through which any available book, in any library in any jurisdiction, can be loaned to any other library. It’s one of the things you can point to when asked to define the word “civilization.”)

Sorry not to be of more help. I’ll make a note, and if I ever get hold of a spare copy, I’ll tell you. If you do manage to track a copy down, please let me know.
