First Chapters not working out on crime show

I'm learning that the crime novel differs from the horror and sci fi novel in the first chapter. A horror story includes some shivers and frights in the first pages. A science fiction story includes robots or nanotech or at least stars before chapter two.

With crime I'm finding that the first chapter is, more often than not, a 20-40 page establishment shot. It sets up the location and time period. That's all vital to the story, but in audio fiction it's slow, often even dull. The whole story might be a roller coaster whodunit, but I'll never know it if all I've read is the first chapter.

So at Crime City Central we probably won't be doing first chapters. We will consider airing synopses of new books, something like an overview with a hook.
