Hi there Stuart,
Many thanks for adding me as a Crimespace friend. Like your good self, I am a member of the bearded community. What with Crimespace, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, what's next? How about Beardspace? All the best. Malcolm

What an excellent description of La Barclay! She's an event all right, but perhaps not as horizontally as some tragically ageing crimewriters might wish ...

By the way, how do you get your messages to show up on your wall and mine? Wish I could make that work. Makes e-conversations much easier to follow ...

I really enjoyed the article Tom, nice to see someone who actually likes crime fiction reporting on a crime festival.

In answer to your question, last year I described le Barclay:

"Then it was off to the bar, where the inimitable Alex Barclay (who isn't actually a man) made her usual dramatic appearance, telling everyone they looked gorgeous in a ninety mile an hour Southern Irish accent. Alex tends to create her own event horizon, frenetic energy building up to critical mass until it implodes into a gravitational well that pulls in men for miles around. Shameless hussy that she is."

She denied everything afterwards of course...

I tried to post on your blog but couldn't make it work ... so here's the question I was going to ask ... How exactly did YOU describe Alex Barclay??

Thanks for the nice words about the article, by the way ... Imagine my delight when Kernick really did say those words - and I had my notebook handy!

Hey, you're back! Lucky I voted for you before you washed my brain. I bet you would have used steel wool.

Ah, thank you all for your kind, slightly drunken words...

I've been locked out of Crimespace for about a month now, so I'm glad to be back. Now all I need to do is find a way to brainwash you all into going out and voting for the Theakston's, because I'm a greedy bastard and you can never have too many little wooden beer barrels!

Yes - what Em said - and more.

Congratulations Stuart - I bet the Aberdeen tourist industry is ducking for cover now :)

The award was very apt - this little reader has thoroughly enjoyed all of your books.

Hi Stuart - I just finished COLD GRANITE and I wanted to say how thoroughly I enjoyed it. Loved the characters and thought the story was terrific, and very, very well told. (It was bloody cold, an' all - I had to keep putting the fire on in the evening, all that damn wind and snow was in my bones!) Thanks - and congrats on the CWA nomination, too. Best of luck! Jools

Thanks Kerrie, I don't stand an icicle’s chance in hell of actually winning, but it's the taking part that counts... (mutters darkly under breath)
