If you'll pardon the blatant self-promotion:

Check out We Can't Dance Together at A Twist of Noir!
(based on that Steely Dan song that's been stuck in your head since 1980)

Hi Pam, I didn't recognise your photo at first - forgetting momentarily that you are in fact Catwomen. Yes, shortlisting has been pretty exciting. I even have my photo and interview int he Darwin Sun (not the NT News, as there were no crocs in my short story - have to work on that). Any news from your end?
cheers, the angler.

I remember you and am pleased to hear from you. I am having a good summer reading all sorts of crime fiction in translation so I can write a chapter about it for a companion to crime fiction. So when it looks as if I am just sipping a lovely cold drink and reading, really I am working...

How about you? Are you back in wintry Oz working hard? My daughter who was in Oz and has been in NZ since early Dec arrives back in the UK next Tues, so I am really looking forward to seeing her.

I am really enjoying Scandinavian writers like Karin Fossum and Karin Alvtegen who seem to me to translate well - or at least one doesn't feel you are reading a translation. I hope to contact a number of publishers and ask them what the consider to be the positive and negative aspects of translated crime fiction. I guess the socio-political content of some European writers is too much for the British or English speaking audiences, which is why some French writers are less popular than the Scandinavian ones. Do you have much in Australia of these authors.

I have also recently read a Gary Disher - Kittyhawk Down, and also Peter Temple. But I have yet to come across NZ writers. Any antipodean crime writers you would recommend?

must go and do some work and play less on internet!
