Video: Unboxing My Very First Print Edition of Cleansing Eden

A looooong time coming.

* The print book will be available as soon as that color fix goes through. Should be just a few more days. So close! Here's the e-book version on Amazon.

* When you buy the print version, you get a link inside the book to get the e-book version for free.

* I didn't have high expectations with Amazon Createspace's print quality. Figured it'd be OK at best, like the POD books from back in the day. Nope. Really a nice job. You can't see here, but the cover image is super crisp.

* Takeaway lesson for all you authors out there: Make sure you lighten up any dark fonts. 'Cause they'll print darker than you see on the screen. Also, if you're not uploading images at 300 pixels/inch, you're wasting your time.

* I have nothing against Wisconsin-based PODs. I just threw out a state.

I'll get one eventually. I'm sure it'll help with marketing. Shame I don't have my free year of Prime anymore. I'm always behind the market on trends. I'm learning though. Networking with authors here has definitely helped a lot.

Step 1 is getting that e-reader. I thought I "got" e-books until I bought my Nook. I don't think you can understand the market without one.

I've submitted to several agents. I think I understand the basics of a query. There's a lot of differing views but I don't think I'll learn too much new at this point. Either way, I'm taking a class featuring a lot of info about the industry, so that should help.

Wow, that does sound like an interesting option. Not throwing in the towel on the traditional route yet but I suppose it's an interesting alternative if all else fails. A designer? Cool, it looks good, and legit. Did the designer run much?

Good luck with the publishing. It's a rough biz. Hopefully it'll work out. If I ever get a Kindle, maybe I'll check out some of your stuff. :)

D'oh. That link didn't show up quite right. Here it is again:

Both were for "Cleansing Eden," and the latter one did my crime humor series. One of the humor installments is where he stole a cover image. "Cleansing Eden" I had a designer do, and I know the image is legit.

It doesn't cost anything to do Amazon CreateSpace. They take a cut of the sale only. It abided by my number 1 rule: I'm the author, money doesn't leave my account (with a select few exceptions).

If you're looking to get info on the whole querying process (and good places to submit), Writer's Market is the way to go. Here's the link.

Sounds so promising. lol Really makes all the "you have to go publishing" route seem a bit less credible. Good luck with the next one. I still got no clue on the biz specifics so I suppose I'm still in the learning phase. I'm still trying to master the query let alone know whether a publisher is reliable or not. Here's hoping that maybe my novel will catch on somewhere. Were your publishers all for Cleansing Eden or for another book?

May I ask how much this printing through Amazon costs? If I ever do throw in the towel with traditional publishers, I will probably consider something to get a hard copy of my book.

I had two publishers prior to going the self-pub route. The first wound up flaking on every promise, so I left. The second used an image on one of my covers that he never got permission to use. So I left. I wanted to get on with my life, so I did it the right way. My way.

The next novel I'll shop around. I've learned so much since writing this first one. My chances must be better.

Anyway, it's a marathon, not a sprint, right?

Well, I'd never have written a novel without a degree of insanity, so I guess you're right. ;) We shall see. I know a lot if people frown on self-publishing but I will keep an open mind on the idea.

Best to you on the agent hunt. They can be a big help. But I don't think it's "if" you go insane. It's more like "how much."

Something I'll keep in mind if the agent route makes me go insane. It definitely looks very professional.
