Has anyone seen either "The Drop" based on a Dennis Lehane short story(he also wrote the screenplay)or "A Walk Amongst the Tombstones," the new film version of Larry Block's novel?

After seeing both I have to give Drop a thumbs up & Tombstones a thumbs down. I think the Rotten Tomato-meter is about right pegging Drop at an 85 and Tombstones at 65.

Although Liam Neeson is a fine actor, I don't think he was the best choice for Scudder. Also, even though this novel may have had some originality when it 1st came out way back when, we've seen it all before many times, and done much better quite a few.

As far as Drop goes, there is one thing I'd like to say about it but can't without pulling a spoiler. Suffice to say, it is a much better movie than Tombstones. Lehane's script, maybe his first, is very good. When it rains, it pours for this guy. The ?!@&!?

Still, I'd recommend seeing Tombstones because it's not terrible and of interest
to writers, especially in our genre, on how a successful crime writer's novel ends up portrayed on the big screen.

Thanks, Jed. I plan to see both. My copy of THE DROP arrived in yesterday's mail.

Yes, Dana. I'm very curious to read that one. Apparently he wrote the novel after writing both the short story and screen play. Boy, he must be going to really score on that short story! Good for him!
