I saw a couple of mystery books in a store earlier this year, but now can't remember the author. The character is a folklorist, in the Ozark/Missouri area, I think, or somewhere close. Male author with a French sounding last name, if I haven't cross-filed this memory byte.

This is why I should always buy interesting books as soon as I see them.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel Woodrell?
I thinks Margot has the particular name I'm seeking. Bibliography at his page at:

But I haven't read Woodrell for a long time either, so off to the bookstore for some of each. Thanks to both of you!

Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell is one of the best books I've read this year. It's now out in paperback too.
