Step Right Up, Ya Can't Win If Ya Don't Play...

Be sure to drop by Murderati today and check out the contest I'm running there. You have to come up with a line from a mystery or thriller novel containing something a well-known character would be highly unlikely to say or do. Prizes include free books by Your Humble Narrator.

Hot Handed God of Cops

Hot-Handed God of Cops

I just saw John Woo's HARD BOILED (Chinese title: GOD OF GUNS or HOT HANDED GOD OF COPS) for the first time.

Total Body Count: 307.

Explosions.

Weapons with apparently endless supplies of ammo.

Friendship.

Betrayals.

Reversals of fortune.

Sacrifice.

Not one, but FOUR jaw-droppingly gonzo action s…

BSP: Bookreporter.com Likes SAFE AND SOUND

Joe Hartlaub at Bookreporter.com calls SAFE AND SOUND "one of the darkest --- and best --- novels of 2007." There's more...check it out!

And thanks, Joe!

Let Us Now Praise Famous Fen

Crossposted from Murderati

Fen: The plural of fan. Another word for "fans," as in people who like something, not cooling devices.
The Urban Dictionary

One of the greatest parts about the writing life is the chance it gives me to meet other writers--people whose work I love, and who, as it turns out, are huge fun to hang out with. But one of the unexpecte…

Hi J. D.
Did you ever see my blog (here on CrimeSpace) called The Power of Jack?

Just saying Hi

Looking for common interests, I came up with Michael Connelly and The Transporter.

Hey. Thanks for the recommendation. I can see Ken Bruen has written a number of books, is there any book you will recommend as first choise?

In a first novel I made the mistake of having the Chicago River flow the way most rivers flow, into larger lower bodies of water. Good guess, no? But it's wrong. Engineers have reversed the flow so that Chicago's sewage doesn't flow right into its fresh water intake. It was a small error but from then on I wanted to get everything right, even if the story could get along well with faking it. Even one of Ray Bradbury's short stories had the moons of Mars revolving the wrong way around the parent planet, and if you notice things like this, it's jarring.

Hi Dusty, thanks for visiting my page and the kind words about Secondhand Smoke! (I've been on vacation and out of the loop, which is why I'm so tardy in responding!) I've got your new book in my TBR pile; can't wait!

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the murderati contest! Have The Devil's Hand at home to read (actually bought it after 'running into you' at TLC) this weekend (even though I'm also writing...). Those 'quotes' would make a great book by themselves.
