This may be 6-month old news to some, but I just came across it. I have a brief discussion of this on my blog at http://nearlynothingbutnovels.blogspot.com/2008/01/kicked-out-of-cu... or you can just go directly to Knut Henkel's article at http://www.signandsight.com/features/1467.html

The upshot is that Sr. Valle follows a long line of Cuban artists and writers persecuted for their art (including a personal favorite, G. Cabrera Infante). Amir Valle is currently a guest of the German P.E.N, but it sounds like a difficult life, and he is cut off from most family members.

I'm not sure what to suggest, except buying and reading his books, but any comments and ideas are welcome.

Best wishes for the New Year, and long live free speech! Jim
