Not that I knew her, of course, but this is the same Helen Nielsen who wrote Detour, right?

Yes, she did write a novel called DETOUR (aka DETOUR TO DEATH), not to be confused with the earlier Film Noir of the same name or the 39 novel that film was based on. She also did some TV work for Hitchcock Presents and Perry Mason. Her novel GOLD COAST NOCTURNE was made into a film I haven't seen yet, a British Noir attempt called BLACKOUT.
