Most forums have a post that serves as an entry point for new members, a place for them to introduce themselves. At Crimespace, that post is The Bar.

As a way of starting it off, I'll introduce myself.

My name is Daniel and my favourite colour is black. Half Romanian, half Croatian, I was born and bred in Australia, the country I've spent most of my life in. Got a degree in Computer Science and by day I'm a programmer in the shady field of gaming. Yes, I program poker machines. This does not mean I carry around a Bat-utility belt and rush over to clubs when people don't get paid. It's an office job, plain and simple. I stare at computer screens all day.

By night, and during my lunch hour, I write. Mostly crime, but I'm not afraid to venture outside the genre if the story I want to tell goes that way. Even then I'd say my fiction straddles the border between crime and other genres. I've only been writing solidly for about the last three years, the first two of which were spent on a comedic P.I. novel set in Sydney. Like many writers, that novel was my journeyman piece, in that it taught me how to write a novel (which is not to say I've stopped learning). Also like many writers, I don't think I want it to ever see the light of day.

I've since moved on to a novel that if I had to describe in one sentence, would sound something like this: "An unwilling hitman becomes part of a crime syndicate that reaches back to turn-of-the-century Sydney." Part crime thriller, part historical dream sequence, with elements of the supernatural. I'm about two thirds of the way through the first draft and I'm getting a big kick out of writing something more serious.

A few short stories of mine are floating around the net and I have a list of those on my profile page. In the interest of brevity, I'll leave it at that.

Now. Who wants a drink?

sometimes my name is anne frasier. my color is winter. or maybe a combintion of dark city street and cemetery. i was first published in 1988 -- my 19th book will be coming out in december. i started out writing romantic adventure and romantic suspense under another name. even at that time i didn't have a romantic bone in my body, so i'm really glad i don't have to do that anymore. i've written a couple of police procedurals, but my most recent books are closer to horror.
Bah! Your "closer to horror" has plenty of romance in them!
Ha. Love your favourite colours!

And wow, 19 books. I didn't realise you'd written that many. Such a busy gal.
Hi. My name is Nick. I am majoring in psychology, focus on human sexuality and forensics. I am German. My favourite colour is blue. And I'd rather like a whiskey right now. ;)

I am somewhat of a writer, I'd say, but really still try my hand at just exploring different styles, different genres even. Mystery seems a logical conclusion given a lot of things in my background (not the least the psych major part) and so I am willing to enter that world for a while and possibly try and put an idea I have had for a fair while into words.

No children or pets to name. I am in a relationship though, with a mystery author of all things.
"I am in a relationship though, with a mystery author of all things."

My husband says to tell you to get out now.

(Welcome, and fascinating areas of study.)
Making editors cry--that's a hell of a talent. You can come and sit by me anytime, Neil!
I adore my big brown bruised truck. I can haul odd things at odd hours and upon spying the extensive dents, people always get out of my way.

"Silly" is not a word I have ever assoicated with Neil.

"Morose," yes.

"Silly," no.
I like my dented chevy work truck, but lately I have been lusting for a chevy SSR. It's a sexy concept truck that was made from 2003 - 2006. It's got a 'vette engine in a muscle car body on a light truck frame, with a solid roof convertible that stows between the cab and bed that has a matching color hard cover. It's a blend between a truck and a convertible sports car with loads of trunk room. The glass=packed muffler makes the 6 liter V-8 sound suh-wheet.
Well, I'm a writer of YA fic and maybe romantic suspense in the future. My favorite color is black. I like stories that push limits, that's why I read crime fic. I rarely drink liquor, so...can I have a cup of french vanilla cafe instead? :)
Oh and I like to read really scary bad guys.
French vanilla coming right up.

Oh. Forgot. Can't. Post. Drinks.
I'm Rob. My favorite color is also black. I wear it a lot. People make fun of me because of it. I'm very lonely. Please call me. I want to be your bunk buddy.

Okay, okay, I'm happily married. Two kids. And I write. I write a lot. I've written enough blog entries on Anatomy of a Book Deal to fill a book or two.

Plus I have a book out right now called KISS HER GOODBYE, with another coming out next summer. Both published by St. Martin's.

I love St. Martin's. They make me less lonely. They're my bunk buddies.

So to speak.
