See kids, this is why you should always wear your batting helmet. - CrimeSpace2024-03-28T15:58:30Zhttps://crimespace.ning.com/forum/topics/537324:Topic:63313?commentId=537324%3AComment%3A63336&feed=yes&xn_auth=noI agree that there is no excu…tag:crimespace.ning.com,2007-08-15:537324:Comment:636342007-08-15T14:38:52.323ZCyndi Martinhttps://crimespace.ning.com/profile/CyndiM
I agree that there is no excuse to turn into an ass when you become successful. Pete wouldn't have gotten where he was without fans buying baseball tickets and he should always seem appreciative to them. That goes for everyone who is successful because other folks bought their paintings, or books, or tickets to their movies. At least pretend to be grateful and humble and decent.

Right you are about Phil Rizzuto.<br />

As for trashing people, it reminds me of that great quote of Twain's about a lie going around the world before truth can get its boots on. The more things change...

It does sound as if Charlie Hustle (hustle, indeed!) has earned himself a place in the A**hole Hall of Fame, if not Cooperstown, and I wouldn't dream of excusing bad behavior just because someone is a ......fill in the blank. That said, I read a blog recently where a writer wrote that she'd been trashed online by a store employee (at a signing) who called the writer a jerk. She went back to the store with chocolates, apologized profusely for her bad day, and made things right. Smart move. OTOH,…

OTOH, isn't it a little scary that in this day and age, anyone can say anything about anybody, and if it's online it carries more weight than it probably should?<br />
I had occasion to meet Laura Lippman at Malice this year, and you're right, she's a peach. She was warm and friendly (even though I bordered on gushing, stalker fan) but what if she'd been having a rotten day? The bigger the target, the easier it is to hit.<br />
Anyway, baseball lost a true gentleman today in The Scooter, Phil Rizzuto. Holy Cow, I'd rather be thinking about him than Pete Rose.. Never! Fate has been good to…tag:crimespace.ning.com,2007-08-14:537324:Comment:633362007-08-14T17:23:16.391ZI. J. Parkerhttps://crimespace.ning.com/profile/Ingpark
