Advertising in books? Uh-uh. I don't have a problem with subtle product placement, so long as it's appropriate. If an author can make a few bucks by having a character drive a Lexus instead of a BMW, and it makes no difference to the rest of the story, fine. Everyone has a way to make money off the writer; he might as well make a few bucks for himself.
