No. You're quite right, Jim. They do offer the courtesy of sharing the design with me before the book is released, but I have no input. A recent squabble over a French cover made me so angry that I won't post it on my web site. In my case, historical inaccuracy is frequently the problem, but there have been others.

I should add that, by and large, I don't think much of the average mystery cover design.

There's porn and then there's necro-porn. My tastes are pretty broad, but I've never thought there was anything sexy about autopsies.

Your font choices wouldn't be mine (I'd go with a bigger, bolder sans-serif typeface), but it looks like it would grab some eyeballs, Garry.

Here is a cover I designed for the novel I am trying to sell now. I have put together a few chapter of it for testing with my friends. I thought it would look better than handing them a stack of papers.

I think you should go with this idea, I.J. You might be on to something. I'm reminded of that one writer that I can't remember the name of. He said something to the effect of "There are no such thing as bad Ideas - only bad ways to writing a novel."

I'm going to order a copy and refresh my memory, but really, as I said, my recollection is that the writing isn't bad at all.

I can't find much on the author, other than his other titles are just as giggle-worthy: "The Herod Conspiracy" and "The Styx Complex." (My guess is that his career ended after he was unable to sell his next book, "Night Of The Iscariot.")

You know, I bet that was indeed the inspiration. I'm just old enough to remember when "bad seed" made-for-TV movies were in vogue during the 1970s. (Anybody remember "Bad Ronald" or "Satan's School For Girls"?)
