It's been a while since I read Nesbo. I probably didn't like some book. Maybe I should try again. Unlike a lot of people I don't mind characters with drinking problems. If it's a police procedural, this is often due to job stress and adds more job stress. Stress is very good in a mystery.

Wait! The Harry Hole books irritate me because of the over-the-top plots. Otherwise I could relate to Harry. The last one I read was set in Thailand.

I'm interested! Both my series characters, Dan Marlowe/Hampton Beach, and Mike Malloy/Harvard Square--Boston's Combat Zone, have alcohol and/or drug issues. I know of Nesbo, but nothing of his character Harry Hole except that it's an interesting name.

Think there would be any interest in discussing the treatment of alcoholism in crime fiction? The reason this came to mind is that I'm reading one of Jo Nesbo's books, and Harry Hole doesn't behave like any alcoholic I have known.

Hi guys, for some reason it seems that the forum disappeared from the main page. I've resurrected it so hopefully that spurs some discussions.

Let's see if things pick up now. I must confess to not spending the time I used to here but I do check in regularly to approve new members. Many of which are very interested in finding romantic partners ... not crime fiction. Needless to say, I deny those membership applications.
