John Updike dead at 76

I have read a few of his books but now no more to come. I shouldn't admit this but I wasn't a real fan. However, I know he is/was? an author who won many literary awards. He just wasn't my cup of tea.

My mother had an expression about one's value in the world, something to the effect that no one was much more than a ripple in the river of life. She always said, one should be humble enough to laugh at his foibles because everyone is in the same boat. And worth mentioning again her mixed metaphor:
"Cast your bread upon the water and it will come back sandwiches." A wise woman of her era.
She was a voracious reader--my role model.

I suppose I should sample Updike. Did I read recently that he won an award for the worst sex scene in literature? Maybe I won't sample.
