    Hi from another Ta-ron-tonian!
  • Harding Young

    Good to meet you.

I just picked up a copy of Dirty Sweet over the holidays. Looking forward to diving in this weekend.
  • John Dishon

The review was deleted because apparently reviews aren't allowed in the forum section. I didn't see that in the rules anywhere, but so it goes.

I started another discussion sans my review. Maybe a discussion will start from there. I still might put the review up in my blog.
  • Adam Haynes

    Hey!
I thought Dirty Sweet was fantastic. So glad to know that there are others out there coming from Leonard and not Chandler!
  • Dana King

Thanks for the nice comment on my ThugLit story. I've read enough of your discussion comments to build a healthy respect for your opinion, so your comment means a lot.
  • Dana King

I just read GROW HOUSE on the Demolition site. Great story, and the twist at the end has the quality of being a surprise, yet seeming inevitable in retrospect. A great read.
  • L.J. Sellers

Just stopping in to say Hi. Elmore Leonard is near the top of my list too. Congratulations on getting your novel published. And apologies from Eugene for producing another fake memoir writer.
  • Christopher Valen

    John,
I can't imagine having that conversation with my wife. It had to be devastating to Spitzer's wife and to his children.

    Happy Sunday, John
Thanks for reading and posting on my blog. After I posted, I worried for a moment about offending people with my fondness for profanity, then thought, after writing and publishing The Sex Club, it's a little late to worry about offending people. Thanks for mentioning "Frank." I think there's a lot of cops named Frank in fiction too.
  • Christopher Valen

    John,
If the clowns in the White House who disregarded the Geneva Accords and Habeas Corpus actually read anything, they might understand the difference between fact and fiction . . . and that Jack Bauer and "24" isn't reality TV.

    John,
I, too, wonder why the people aren't more outraged? If we had a draft as in Vietnam, I believe thousands would be protesting in the streets and in Washington. The lack of courage by the Democrats in Congress is truly stunning. The only thing that seems to get anyone's attention is the rising gas prices and the failing economy. We are headed for a major train wreck in the U.S. and we haven't even begun to deal with the long term costs of the war in Iraq estimated to be 3 trillion dollars. Plus, Medicare and Social Security funds are running dry. At least Canada covers health care. Most poor people here don't have it. The next President is going to have to start telling people the truth about the problems we face, regardless of how painful they are going to be. But I'm not holding my breath.

    John,

sorry. Didn't realize earlier that you responded (in a nice way) to my small review.

Hope you could read The Big O.

  • carole gill

just checked out your website. my kind of books! definitely!
  • carole gill

oh you made my day! A good discussion, thank you! Carole, huh? Hope she's not an old bag!xxx
  • Anne Frasier

John, that sounds like something I might love! Thanks so much for the title! The novelty of living in a church is beginning to wear a little thin. Mice. Rats. Squirrels. I've discovered that a rat or squirrel can chew a baseball-size hole in a wall in an hour. Heh! Grrr!!
  • Dana King

Congratulations on the good review on Declan Burke's blog. I'm adding NOWHERE to my wish list for the next time I buy a basketful of books.
  • Liam

Thanks John. Yeah, Declan has quite an amazing way to turn a phrase. Big fan, looking forward to reading Big O next.
  • carole gill

John, thanks for your suggesting about that book--Death was the other woman.
Just ordered it! And I have so much to read--but that's going to take precedence.
Yes, it does sound like my kind of book, alright.
btw I started a discussion today which is asking a question based on a book review I saw for that book--the question doesn't concern THAT book--but other books that aren't as good--go see what you think--if you want to respond.
  • carole gill

p,s, it's in the Writer's Den section of the forum.
  • Donna Carrick

Hi, John, just Donna from Toronna checking in. "Everybody Knows...." sounds FANTASTIC -- will definitely order it and bump it up the TBR stack.
    Great to see you!

Hey, that "Sex & Violence" stereotype catches my interest every time!! Sorry I missed your panel. Caught the one on Interpol and the one on VICLAS -- they were both really good. I'll look for you next time for sure!

Nice to meet you! Detroit is everything Elmore paints it as. In Detroit we have a saying, "Nobody moves, nobody gets hurt."

John, who is your agent? Looking for one who might dig on my stuff. Whatta ya think?
  • Liam

But you do have to stay true to yourself, know what I mean? Commercial slommercial. Write what you like, and an agent who's not all about benji's and benji's will take it on. I haven't found one yet, but they have to be out. Waiting, lurking. Maybe I'll true the small press route, who knows.
  • carole gill

    loved the interview, btw.
    really admire you, John.
I know what you mean about solitude. I'm from Manhattan and live in rural Yorkshire!
and even though I had a long time to adjust, it does get on my nerves sometimes, especially when I'm walking the dogs through farmland--and as I step over various things I remember wearing high heels and rushing towards Fifth Avenue--feeling like the cat's pajamas! still, life has change in it. I guess.
Anyway, stay as cool as you are, cause you're great.

    Hi John,
I enjoy your Forum discussion topics, so I thought it was about time we became Crimespace friends. Keep up the good work!
  • Brian McGilloway

    Thanks John
Hope the tour with Declan B goes well.
    Best wishes

  • D.R. MacMaster

Thanks for the nice blog comment. I'm currently working on an outline for the book.
  • Charlotte Williamson

    John,
I'm with you. The Richard Chamberlain movie was lots better than Matt Damon. Why does Hollywood seem to think we need all of that violence, sex, and bad language. Give me a good plot and storyline any day, and I can use my own imagination.
Thanks for your comments on my discussion. they were very helpful and informative. Lots of good material coming in.

    John,
In defense of my opinion regarding the trashing of good books into movies: I turned on my computer this morning, and guess what popped up on MSN? An article entitled,"How Hollywood takes good books and makes them into bad movies." Talk about poetic redemption of my opinion!! You ought to read the article. It's perfect timing.
