Profile Information:

Hometown:
on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia
About Me:
I migrated to Australia from England more years ago than I care to remember. I have a crime novel, 'The Burning', out with Virtual Tales as an ebook(www.virtualtales.com and now available on mobipocket and fictionwise). It's a murder story set against the background of bushfires, which occur all too frequently in our hot, dry summers.

I also have a collection of short stories, 'Unfettered Feet', released with Ginninderra Press (www.ginninderrapress.com.au) in Canberra. Some of these stories involve crime and some don't. Some have murderous intent. There's a stalker, a serial killer, a daughter at the end of her tether.

I like the crime writing of Ruth Rendell, Ed McBain, Ian Rankin, Val McDermid and Minette Walters.

Pretty darn cold is no exaggeration, Daryl, but I'm clinging to those brief signs of spring to cheer me up. Maybe hibernation time is nearly over.

Hi Jackie, you're clinging to signs of spring and we're waking up to early frost with winter coming just too darn fast here in Alaska! We've got another camping trip planned, so having to scrape off the windshield in the a.m. does not bode well. Anyway, Waving from Alaska where it's yesterday for you and you're already in tomorrow for me. Thank you for the invite.

Thank you for being my first friend!

Thanks for the invite...not sure what time it is is Australia, but it's a cloudy Sunday morning here in Illinois. Nice to meet someone from so far away. Isn't it great to have this venue to 'travel'? I'll definitely check out virtualtales. I'm still unpublished (not for lack of trying) but am working on both a police procedural and a cozy. Have a great day!

Thanks Jackie. I am attempting to confirm the value in networking to satisfy my interest and researching and writing about transnational and national crime. Given my interest can you and anyone that reads this comment suggest persons for me to network and get to know. I am a new author yet to be published but I am not new to enterprise and research. Suggest you google "Leutrell" and see the CNN profile so you can get some inisights on my background. Thanks Leutrell Osborne, email: "iiculture@mac.com" and 301 858 8455, Annapolis, Md. USA

    Jackie,
Cool, you're my first Aussie friend. I used to have some "actual" Kiwi friends, but we've lost touch over the years. It is one of my dreams to visit your part of the world (when I get that 6-figure advance for my next book!)
  • Jess

Thanks, Jackie. He has been called a lazy agent but from where I'm sitting, he's a successful lazy agent. LOL

    Hello Jackie

I don't get here as often as I'd like. Thanks for inviting me to be your friend.
  • Karen from AustCrime

Oh darn - we should have worked out some sort of signal and met up to say hello. I went in with my next door neighbour, met her husband there as well and the 3 of us wandered off to the Sofitel for lunch. It was a magnificent day wasn't it. I wrote up the session at http://www.austcrimefiction.org I enjoyed it so much.

Thanks for the invite. Crofting can be fun - sometimes. Winter isn't actually too bad, if we have snow, it is when its wet (as now) and the haar sits permanently over us (as now), that it gets a tad tedious. There is something about wet sheep that stays with you. Kubotas are fun tractors, though quite right, modern. My oldest is 1947 (ish) a grey Fergie which originally had a petrol/paraffin engine that at some stage in its life got the perkins P3 engine put in. I love it, I had a mini version in my farm set as a kid - now I got the real thing. My most "alarming" toy here is the JCB Sitemaster 3CX digger, that is a heap of fun - your husband might consider getting one of those to add to his collection. As for the science, for someone from an "art" background, it is proving to be a huge challenge, I seem incapable of writing "scientifically" - e.g. I likened DNA and mRNA to Batman and Robin in one essay. My tutors are despairing I think. You seem to have managed the transformation from science teacher to novelist - excellent, well done. If I get stuck with my oceanography course this coming year I'll know who to turn to.

Hi, Jackie: Thanks for the invite. I look forward to intriguing conversations!

    Hello Jackie,

Interesting that your crime novel is set against the background of bushfires. I did a book tour to San Diego in late October and arrived just in time for the worst of the fires and evacuations. Nothing like being able to see the air you breathe -- a challenging time for all. Have you actually been caught in a bushfire?
  • Morgan Hunt

You most surely did have plenty of experience on which to base your story. Egads!

Thanks for the good wishes; let me know how it goes with The Burning on Virtualtales.com.
  • Dana King

Thanks for the friend invitation. I'm looking forward to trading insights, it looks like we have similar, but not identical tastes.

Jackie, thanks for inviting into your circle of writer-friends. What caught your eye about me that made you key me in? Look forward to chatting. We have some terrific friends in Brisbane and have threatened for years to make the trip down. Don't know that I could survive that long in an airplane. Yikes!
