Profile Information:

Hometown:
Mobile, AL
About Me:
I'm originally from Smithdale, MS, (a town so small it's often absent from state maps) and I write dark urban fantasy and supernatural suspense novels, which are best described as "Lisa Gardner meets Anne Rice." My first novel, BLOOD LAW, was sold to Bantam Dell as part of a two book deal and will published May 25, 2010.

I'm a member of International Thriller Writers, Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, International Order of Horror Professionals, and the Association for Gravestone Studies, an organization dedicated to preserving historic cemeteries.

I've had a short story -- BIG RED: A LOVE STORY -- and a nonfiction essay -- SOMETHING BORROWED -- published in ORACLE, a fine arts review journal published by the University of South Alabama. I also had a nonfiction essay -- NUGGET'S STORY -- published in the anthology WRITING MOBILE BAY: THE HURRICANE PROJECT and was selected to read a portion of my essay during the Alabama Book Festival in April 2006. Excerpts from these can be found on my website under the "Books" section.

When I'm not writing, I'm always on the prowl for the perfect megahugebighonkin'ginormous cup of coffee -- white chocolate mochas are my absolute favorite. I hold Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English with an emphasis in creative writing from the University of South Alabama. Currently, I live in Mobile, Alabama with my husband and four neurotic cats.

Did you have one of the brownies at Einstein's ????? I selected one, sans the walnuts, because I was in the loop. Should have brought coffee. Nice to hear you enjoyed the panel. I was quite flattered to be asked to sit with five MDs. I hope my MO in book three doesn't frighten you too much. I'm considering thanking Anna Nicole Smith in my acknowledgements. :)
  • Jeannie Holmes

    Hey, Thomas

I had a brownie, also sans walnuts, and I wasn't in the loop. It was more of a personal perference. Coffee would have been great. I'm a total coffee fiend.

Nah, the MO for book three doesn't frighten me at all. If anything it makes me want to read it more. It's dark and disturbing, just the way I like my fiction.
  • Mary Saums

Hi, JK - I see we have many favorite authors in common. If you haven't read Maria Lima's new book, Matters of the Blood, I think you'd like it. Underworld - I just saw this yesterday and thought it was pretty good. So 'Evolution' is a sequel?

Best of luck with your books!
  • Jeannie Holmes

    Hi, Mary.

I'll check out Matters of the Blood. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, 'Underwold: Evolution' is the sequel. I think there will be a third as well, but I haven't heard anything about it lately. One more thing for me to check on. lol

  • Jeannie Holmes

    Hi, Kristine

Thanks! Yes, that's one of my cats, Nugget. I have three others -- Chaos (another black), Panic (a red tabby), and Disorder (a tortiseshell). And, yes, they do live up to their names. lol
  • Joan Conwell

I love vampires. Thanks for inviting me!
  • Krystal Waters

I love your cats and names! lol I am allergic to dogs and cats... although I love them. We have two dogs currently. I just have to make sure that I dust well and keep up on their grooming.

Chaos! lol Ioved that name the best. Love your cats for me... give them lots of love as I would... sigh. Maybe someday I'll be able to tolerate a cat and looking forward to that time. I'll come to you for a name! lol
  • Jessica D. Russell

You're very welcome J.K. It's great to see another paranormal buff! Nugget is adorable!

Hi and thanks for inviting me! Any chance you'll go to Murder in the Magic City in Birmingham in Feb? I'll be there! (Not sure how far that is from Mobile).
  • Roger Newbury

Hey there! Thanks for getting in touch, great to meet you on here, and looking forward to many discussions. I'm a huge fan of horror stories and films, and the Dracula ones with Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing being my favourites, but some of the modern films have been very good as well, if a tadge tongue (or Fang-in-cheek!) Dracula 2000 for example. I have a couple of books by Anne Rice in my collection, but haven't gotten around to reading them as yet.
I shall keep an eye out for your books, and will buy them as soon as I can!
  • Douglas Quinn

Not a big vampire fan but always open to a new twist. I'm wondering if the new Drama "New Amsterdam" this fall will be one that grabs me. I see you're a big coffee fan. I've written many chapters in the local coffee house. My protag in Blue Heron Marsh is an admitted beer snob--he likes Grolsch--but drinks snickerdoodle as his coffee of choice. Go figure. Hope you will post an excerpt of your book soon. In the meantime, take a peek at my web site and let me know what you think about what I'm doing.

  • Charlotte Williamson

I like your black cat. I have one of my own. I love cats, anyway, no matter what color they are.
You have an interesting page. Sounds mysterious!

Who can resist a black cat? Thanks for the add!
  • Brian L Porter

    Brian
  • Ann

hey, thanks for adding me. Vampires! Booyah! I have a a new vampire page on my site, I'll add your web page to it if you'd like.
  • Sue Dawson

It is taking a bit to know the ins and outs of this site, andI think that I may be double-posting in the friends' department. My expertise will improve with time. Now I am enjoying looking at all the authors with their published books. I am not into vampires, but I am an animal lover--dogs over cats, but I have a friend a year older than I who adores cats and is a mystery fan. Thanks for your friendship.
  • Rick R. Reed

Hi! Thanks for adding me to your line-up of friends, J.K. I look forward to finding out more about you and your work (which sounds right up my alley). I hope you’ll check out my new thriller, IM, about a serial killer preying on gay men using Internet hookup sites.
  • Patricia Gulley

Thanks for the invite JK, love paranormal and SF, fantasy and horror are iffy, so always looking for a good variation. May we both have good luck with the publishing industry in 2008.
  • Sarah M. Chen
