Hello Nancy,

Since I too seldom visit Crime Space I haven't seen your mail earlier. Nice though to hear from you. I am also a member of Police Pulse. So there is another thing we have in common. May I invite you to be my friend?

Regards from Carl

Good morning, Nancy.  I don't office visit Crimespace, but I was doodling around this morning and I noticed that you included Raymond Chandler as a favorite writer.  He's one of mine, as well.  I used to really enjoy the late Robert B. Parker's Spenser mysteries... but I think fame and fortune tamed Parker and his last couple books lacked the punch of HUGGER MUGGER, THIN AIR, A CATSKILL EAGLE, et al.  Another author that I noticed was significantly absent from your list was Dashiell Hammett.  Have you read THE THIN MAN, THE MALTESE FALCON, or RED HARVEST?  I love those old books.

Oops gotta run.  Thanks again for inviting me to Planet Earth Advocates.  I notice that you have a passion for protecting wildlife.  God bless you.  Did you know that Buddhists operate a shelter for animals near Kanab, Utah?  It's really something.  These people are so loving and caring that, when their rabbit sanctuary became overrun with mice... so they made a new place for the rabbits and now have a spot for mice.

Om mani padme hum!

Thanks for calling me on into your police lineup. I can only testify to never a dull moment.

Nancy,

Try something that takes you out of the US for a bit: Alan Furst, Philip Kerr's early books, and if you really want to risk it, try Michael Genelin (that's me). And, yes, I'm also a member of Police Pulse (an ex-DA).

Best,

Michael Genelin

Thanks for the friendship Nancy. I love Dennis Lehane and Elmore Leonard, too, even if I didn't mention them in my profile. Carl Hiassen is great fun. Good picks.
