Dead-End Road sprung out of a debate I had with a fellow South African whether it is justified for the private security companies that are trying to stem the tied of crime, to use deadly force outside of a lawful framework. The book explores the complexity of South Africa's violent society, and how even well-intentioned people might secretly be glad that someone is willing to assume the doctrine eye-for-an-eye. Harry Mason and Jacob Tshabalala return to the job.
