I grew up a bit more that day, as close as I care to get to real world evil. I was encouraged, though, by the Poles' determination not to let go of the memory and risk its recurrence. My translator, a young doctoral student, told me she visited the camps (I and II) as a child with her school, and the effect on her of that early exposure was subtle but made me hopeful.

Richard--I've been to Dachau.  On my honeymoon at that!  Pretty frightening stuff.
