About Me:
I'm a member of the Capital Crime Writers group (www.capitalcrimewriters.com) and the editor for its monthly newsletter -- The Purloined.

I'm also chair of the steering committee for the 2009 Bloody Words mystery conference -- it's Canada's only national mystery conference -- and in 2009 it will be held in Ottawa. Lots of fun to organize, and we are thrilled to have Peter Temple coming from Australia -- have you read The Broken Shore? Wow. And our Canadian Guest of Honour is Louise Penny.

Other than that, I have a Creative Writing certificate from George Brown college in Toronto, and am writing short stories, but trying to work on a novel -- but that may have to be postponed a bit til after Bloody Words!

In August I am heading over to the Edinburgh Writers Festival, then Bouchercon in Baltimore. I am trying to make it to Scene of the Crime in Kingston (well, Wolfe Island) in August as well.

Books And Authors I Like:
Peter Temple, Cormac McCarthy, Elizabeth Hay, Louise Penny, Peter Robinson, Denise Mina, Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Elizabeth George, Donna Leon, Giles Blunt, Truman Capote, Raymond Carver, Robert Goddard, -- and many more I can't think of right now -- I loved The House of Sand and Fog.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
The Sopranos TV show. I watch it on DVD as I don't own a TV. For movies I am a huge film festival buff, and I like things like The Black Book, Zelary, okay pretty much anything with subtitles; and pretty much anything by the Coen Brothers -- how about that Blood Simple? And then there are films like Body Heat - it's wonderful. And anything by David Mamet. Other gems -- Sexy Beast, The Limey. There are so many...

Katherine,
You have a right to be away. You have a right not to respond to e mails immediately. Good on you for both. Glad the book arrived. Thanks for the interest.

Katherine,
I put a copy of The Suicide Diary into the US mail about a week ago. You should be receiving it soon. Please let me know when you do. All the Best.

Watch it on DVD and don't own a TV? Now, there's a lady of thre future.

Your book picks are ecclectic, but I sense on the noir side.

There wasn't much question among us journalists in Jakarta that he was pushed. The first report was that he "fell." But it is surprisingly difficult to fall out of a helicopter. It was, in any event, a great tale to base a novel around. See you in Baltimore.

I do have an extra copy of The Suicide Diary, which is a stitch. Normall I advise against giving away any residential mailing addresses on the web (this is an 'open' site to the extent that anyone can read positings. My private email is 'notdeadyet@att.net' and if you have an office address or P.O. box I can get this to you. I'm intrigued by your Ottawa bash and could be lured NOTB (north of the border) if timing is good. By temperament and preference I'm more Canadian than American, hey.

Everyone into the pool, Katherine. This means, you, too. Pool means pool of talent. I think you'll find it deep here, so if you just want to get your feet wet, you'll have less fun. Welcome.

Hi Katherine, welcome. Hope to run into you at Bouchercon. My new book - Flight of the Hornbill - will be out in October and is loosely based on the Bre-X (a Canadian company) gold fraud in Indonesia in the mid-1990s. I covered the story when I was living in Asia and working as a journalist.

Loved Blood Simple. How about that Barton Fink?
