Hey! Denise Mina is one of my all time favs. I'm catching up with Garnet Hill right now. But it took me a while to find out what a cagoul is. It's a clue in the initial murder and none of my US dictionaries list it. And it's not in the OED. I googled it and, of course, found that it's a hooded jacket -- frequently called a windbreaker here. Is this term popular in Glasgow??? Do you think she didn't realize how local a term this is?

Pure? I dinnae kain at. I am a Love of McKinnon (Isle of Skye, home to Talisker). After Culloden, my part of the family fled to America, where an 18 year old Thomas Love McKinnon of Alexandria Virginia dropped his infant son off at an orphange. I am a bastard Scott, and as near we can trace, Thomas was from Paisley, near Glasgow. I've been there several times, and the Lafroig (Heather Ale) from Brewmaster Bruce's brewery outside of Glasgow keeps me coming back for more. When I am there, and here in the USA too, I wear my McKinnon tartan kilt, but am thinking of getting a Furquarlson one too, since my mom is a Christie of Furquarlson.
Good on yee, man!
