After hearing about it at FiveAwesomeYAFans, I read Catherine Ryan Hyde’s Diary of a Witness. The cover is really nice (you can see it here), simple and foreboding, which made me hope that maybe this was a mystery.

Check It: The YA Mystery Checklist

Now that I got my Edgar rant off my chest, and my soapbox has been reinstated as a coffee table, I thought I should think about criteria for my list of YA mysteries. Since everyone else seems to be so liberal with their interpretation of the genre.

Good luck on those two YA novels! Let me know if you find a publisher for either one. In answer to your question, I've written the first in a new series, WICKED WHITEWATER, starring a whitewater river ranger living in Salida. Since 5 Star's pub. cycle is 2 years, I really need another series to get a book out in those intervening years. My agent is shopping the manuscript now.

Although my novel debut is in the dark adult thriller camp, and my shorts tend to be very dark crime fiction, I have also had a YA novella published that I still have a very soft spot for.
