I own a restaurant with my husband, and a jewelry design business which specializes in inspirational jewelry, and mom jewelry.
I have published articles in business magazines,and I also wrote a book on hiking in Iowa.
I live on a small farm with my husband, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 horses (down from 4).
I'm currently working on a cozy mystery, having finished my previous manuscript.

Post Meltdown

Okay so I've spent the last couple of weeks like a chocolate bar on the dashboard. And remember it's still summerr. I'd been stressing over not making the finals of the first manuscript contest I'd ever entered. I didn't final in the Chick Lit Writer's Stiletto contest. And I hadn't gotten my results back, so I figured I was was world's worst fiction writer. Non-fiction was never this hard (how soon we forget).

But the results came via email, last night. Averaging the two scoresheets…

Marketing your Book

Okay, so the articles I wrote for business magazines involved getting your product out there. Of course they were written with artists (and I mean jewelry, ceramics, etc.) in mind. I wrote about public relations, getting exposure, and putting together a press kit.

If enough of you are interested, I can post about press kits, where to target them, and how to make yours stand out. Many of you have probably already done this, but for those who haven't, I'd be happy to add my two cents…

Up at 5 in the morning, buying groceries, looking over the menu, making sure everything is in place, dealing with vendors, checking the schedule (and re-checking the schedule), paying the vendors, paying the help, resolving a dozen crises and all that before NOON!! I love restauranteurs, but I know I could *never* do it!

Ever notice politicians always talk about small businesses, the family business. the family farm and have all these nods to working men and women who are out there in the trenches with their own small enterprises, and yet the policies -- and this runs from City Council to Congress -- they enact end up hurting these same small businesses while benefiting the mega conglomerates that pop up like malignant mushrooms to syphon off the good will and customers you've spent a generation building?

Gee, now look who's ranting!
