Tomorrow I’ll kick off the month of August at the Borders in Woodbridge VA. This store is just off I-95, just outside the Potomac Mills Mall. If you’re out and about shopping Saturday, stop by at 2904 Prince William Pkwy, Woodbridge, VA, have a coup of Seattle's Best Coffee and say hi.

Mystery duo Robert W. Walker and Miranda Phillips Walker are guests on my main blog, “
Another Writer’s Life” discussing what happens when mystery writers unite in matrimony. How much acrimony?

In this section I like to point you to books I think will be good additions to your library, or to places to find them. Today I want to tell you about
GenReview.
That name could be read as a combination of the words genre and review or as a genre-view. Either would be appropriate. They only review popular fiction, those stories written primarily for their entertainment value. They look at crime fiction, romance, speculative…

I just have to mention the good time I had Saturday at the Borders in Largo, MD. It was a hot day outdoors but the Capital Centre is such a cool place that a few people stopped by anyway. I can’t say I saw a lot of book browsers, but I had an unusually high percentage of meetings to signed books so it worked out well.

Did you miss me? I know it has been a while since my last newsletter. I ran off to the other edge of the country for long weekend to attend a very important wedding and returned to a mountain of work that had waited patiently for my return. So each day this week I’ve spent time working on the past while new requirements piled in on me from the present.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack at once.
Since I posted last I enjoyed a fun book…

I have a nice new review on my site written by Fred Apelquist.
Among other things, Fred writes one of my favorite blogs called YETMO (for
You’re Entitled To My Opinion) where he comments on our times, social issues and political matters with a keen and objective eye. I was flattered that he took time out to read and comment on my latest novel, Russian Roulette.

I was featured along with my fellow Acme Authors bloggers on the “

Baltimore Washington International Airport was packed on the day before Independence Day, and that helped me sign a better than average number of books. Besides, manager Dave keeps me supplied with coffee and pound cake.
Westfield Mall was a good deal less busy on Saturday. Still I had a good time and signed more than enough books to make it worth the drive. Sadly the Starbucks there is actually outside the Mall, but we make do.
Also this week,…

The 4th of July is a traditional family gathering time. Whenever families gather inevitably the horror stories come out, and it evolves into a competition as to whose life is most challenging. After listening for years to how hard it is to be a teenager, to start life after college, to raise kids and to age gracefully –depending on who has the floor – I’ve come to a discomforting realization.
The hardest years in life are those between 10 and 70.

Today's holiday reminds us all of patriotism and the birth of our nation, but my favorite quote about the holiday may well be these words from Erma Bombeck:
"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness."
So when the day is…
