Our own award winning author, Brian L. Porter, of "A Study in Red -- The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper" is spotlighted at my blog today. I hope everyone will come over and discover how this talented writer 'got inside' the mind of Jack the Ripper and created his secret journal. This book is simply sailing off the charts and if you haven't read it yet...what are you waiting on???

...oh yes I did. And its breath stank of fish.
No post yesterday. I had a horrendous migraine, so didn't get a chance to do anything.
So I managed to cram two days events into one. I went shopping to Nordstroms. Ah...home.…

I just returned from Magna Cum Murder in Muncie, Indiana, and I have to say that it brings back memories of my first week at college. I came from a small high school where I was the smart girl to a mid-sized university, and it was an eye-opening experience to find so many around me who were just as smart, and even a lot smarter than I. I loved the stimulation, but I knew I had to be on my toes.
That's how Magna is. You know your favorites in mystery, you know the characters and the…

Having recovered from a bout of near fatal man flu, I’m back on blog duties once again this week. The interview that I recently did for WriteWords is now up on the site. WriteWords is an on-line source of inspiration and feedback for writers, where you can post sections of your work and invite constructive criticism. Click here to read the full version of the interview. In further publicity related news, my next book signing at the Norwich Branch of ASDA is now just a few days away. The signing…

Would you like to be a tour host for one day? There are openings available and we would be happy to speak with you about the possibilities. Its very easy to be a host if you have a blog, radio show, newsletter etc. -- You can still be involved in these tours, but they are filling up fast. There are so many great tours that I should probably mention that you can host more than one tour :)

With just a few days left to vote, I'd like to ask if my friends here on the network would support my nomination for the latest Authors Lounge Best Cover Illustration Award by going to the voting page
at http://www.talauthors.com/TAL/RomanceandMoreAwards.htm and if you like it, placing a vote for 'Pestilence'. Once again I thanks all of those who have supported my work previously this year and am grateful to everyone for their continued…

Check out my op-ed
"Aqua Fina or Aqua Finite?" that just went live in Huffington Post's "Green" section. The world's water crisis is the topic of my just-released debut thriller FREEZING POINT, and it's also a topic I care deeply about, so I'm REALLY happy the op-ed found such a great home.

Very productive day.
Did over 1000 words of my crime novel, a meeting between my protagonist and the female lead, with lots of loaded dialogue and such, and about 20,000 words of my non-fiction book about the movie business.
Gotcha!
I don't write that fast, I just collected a bunch of my original articles together.
What comes next is the new material, and the long hard slog of adapting the older articles into a coherent whole.
Plus I got…

I just received my program for the 5th annual Great Manhattan Mystery Conclave (Oct 31 – Nov 02, 08) here in Manhattan, KS, and there it was, my name in black and white. How exciting is that? Not only is it my first conference, but it’s my first public appearance, complete with author signing and panel.
If you’re a reader, writer or fan and you live in the area, please feel free to stop by the Holiday Inn at 17th & Anderson Avenue. I’ll be there Friday night and most of the…

I've promised myself that I will finish my current WIP before beginning anything else, but this one is fighting back. Although it's a great story and very entertaining inside my head, it resists me when I try to write it. The timeline doesn't work, historical fact gets in the way, and I've taken so many wrong turns that it's impossible to see where I am at any given point.
I know from experience that I can't rush a story, so I've let it "rest" several times. Now I'm determined to…

But first...Donna Messes Up.
So, last night I finally got back to Aniak after being fog-bound in Kalskag. Before we left, all the teachers left me in the school in Kalskag to answer the phone (so, Ewan, you were right - first I was a pilot, yesterday afternoon I was a teacher's assistant (one of the teaching assistants didn't turn up so I got to spend all afternoon with one class). I read to them, helped them with maths (oh-oh - the poor kids are going to fail their next test, and…

In early October, I looked up the Wikipedia article about the Agatha Awards (A REAL BASKET CASE was nominated for the 2007 Best First Novel Agatha Award) and noticed that I was the only author in my category who did not have my own Wikipedia page. So, I read up on how to create Wikipedia pages, thinking I would make one for myself, and was thoroughly flummoxed by the complicated directions. I did figure out how to submit a request asking that a page be written about me, however. Then, I sent an…
