Take a Bite out of Research!

Research doesn’t have to be like a rabid animal trying to take a bite out of your backside.  Make peace with it; in fact, make best friends with it.

Research is Phase Two of my outlining stage.  I consider myself lucky because I love to conduct research.  Let’s face it, you can learn something that you didn’t know when you woke up that morning.  How cool is that?

Hell’s Belle – The Matronly Face of a Brutal Serial Killer?

Interestingly, we have a difficult time wrapping our minds around the fact that there have been “female” serial killers throughout history.  Many times these fiendish femme fetales have had a different approach to offing their unsuspecting victims such as with poison, suffocation, and even starvation as opposed to shootings, knifings, and blunt force traumas…

Forensics in the News

With the advancements in computer technology today, many improvements have been made in the law enforcement community for police related investigations.  The technology hasn’t caught up to the fascinating and lightening speeds of popular television shows, but nonetheless there are some amazing forensic developments.  It is good news for us, but bad news for the criminals.

Can we solve…

The New Millennium Brought a Serial Killer to Kauai

One of my favorite getaways is to the beautiful island of Kauai – and still is today.  All of the Hawaiian Islands are beautiful, but for some reason I enjoy the less crowded and somewhat remote areas of Kauai the best.  I love the local people, great food, and wonderful views.

One of my last visits about four years ago; I sat on a remote beach and thought to myself, “What if there was a killer on the loose here?”  Hey, it’s just a thought.  Many things go through a…

What Have We Learned From Serial Killers?

“Most police investigators will argue that anybody can become a criminal type simply by committing a crime and being processed through the justice system.  We are hypothesizing, however, that serial murdering is a form of disease rather than a lifestyle, a syndrome that has specific hard and soft signs that are symptoms and identifiable long before the potential murderer commits his…

When is a Crime Scene Staged?

There are many reasons why a crime scene has been staged.  The most difficult task is to recognize some of the subtle appearances to indicate that a crime scene has been indeed staged. Fires are an example of a type of potential staged crime scene; it’s usually to cover up a previous crime that had been committed such as…

Crime Solving Partnership for DNA Evidence

DNA is extremely complex, but we hear the word “DNA” almost on a daily basis in the news and on crime shows.  In 1986, DNA was first officially used to solve a crime of two young girls raped and murdered in the English Midlands.  Today, DNA is commonplace in criminal investigations and court proceedings to link a suspect to the crime and to exonerate the innocent who have been wrongfully…
