Another good year at Bookstock

There is a distinctive change in my signings these days: I'm actually making money.

Most of us who write never talk about the pay, which is usually abysmal. We write because we must, and we write because we have something to say and want people to hear it. Money is nice, but no one being realistic expects to make a fortune.

Most of my signings over the years have ranged from quiet to excellent: before this year, probably the best one took place several years ago at the Borders…

Bookstock, 2014

Next week, from July 25 through July 27, I'll be signing my books at the annual Bookstock Literary Festival, held in Woodstock, Vermont. The event brings together literary notables (former U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins this year), Vermont writers and publishers, and, most importantly, readers.

This will also be the first public signing of my newest effort, "Terror Strikes Downtown," in which crime reporter Ace Herron investigates the causes of a series of explosions which tear up…

New thriller: Terror Strikes Downtown

Who could be behind this devastating attack, and what can they possibly gain? Crime reporter Ace Herron, armed only with his pen, his questions, and his lifelong knowledge of the town, is determined to get to the bottom of the case, no matter what.

On the way to 221B Con in Atlanta

The car is gassed and ready, road food is being prepared, clothes being assembled, and video equipment is ready to be picked up.

This trip will be a first for me: I plan to document it as I go, via periodic Twitter updates. I'll also be making a documentary for YouTube, and I hope to get at least one episode of "Book Talk" in the can through interviewing my fellow authors.

So, if I won't see you there, maybe you'll see me!

Ideas

I've been spending the week working on projects I have unfortunately allowed to go by the wayside, but as a result, I had a brainstorm this morning resulting in something, I hope, will prove to be much better. So in the next few days I'll be researching one idea while continuing on the others. No wonder it takes me so long to complete books.

Last chance to win a copy of "Never Meant to Be"

You have until Monday to enter the giveaway for my latest novel, "Never Meant to Be." It tells the story of Cynthia Kenyon, a young woman from 21st Century America, who has an accident with H.G. Wells' time machine and winds up in London, 1882. It is not long before she becomes enmeshed in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, and where she has to face a number of choices, not the least of which is whether what she does changes history, and how her actions affect those she…

"Secrets Can't Be Kept Forever" Book Launch

My new crime novel has been unleashed!

The formal launch of "Secrets" took place last Thursday at the Book Nook bookstore in Ludlow, Vt. We sold every copy on hand and even one of "Sherlock Holmes and the Plague of Dracula," my first novel. (My next, a time travel tale titled "Never Meant to Be," is available at independent bookstores across the country.)

Many thanks to Scott and Patty at the Book Nook for a great evening. No doubt we'll be doing it again.

"Secrets" About to Take Off

This is from an e-mail I received from a fellow author who reviewed "Secrets Can't Be Kept Forever":

"I really enjoyed you novel! It was crisp and well written with a great plot line and the pacing was really good. I wasn't able to format it into MS because it seemed to have some formatting issues so I couldn't make comments on the draft. Geographically, it looked really accurate as well."

Also, a reminder to attend the formal launch at the Book Nook, 136 Main Street, Ludlow,…
