It’s a darn shame that some 4 million fiction manuscripts a year are rejected before the first few pages are even read. All that work on plot and characters and you can't get anyone in publishing to read past page 3, 2, or 1.

I’ve been a book editor working in publishing 44 years. Now that I’m retiring and have the time and means to travel the country, I'm sharing insider information about the manuscript submission process--including how to improve your own odds of surviving the 90 percent rate of quick rejection.

(I also put the information in DON'T MURDER YOUR MYSTERY, which in 2007 won the Agatha Award for Best Nonfiction Book; was voted a finalist for the Anthony, Macavity, and ForeWord magazine Reference Book of the Year; and was made an alternate selection of the Writer's Digest Book Club. In a few weeks, the expanded edition of the same book will become available for all genres under the title: DON'T SABOTAGE YOUR SUBMISSION.)

This is your invitation to come to one of 9 free 90-minute workshops that I'm offering throughout Connecticut and in south Jersey, Boston, Woonsocket, and Philadelphia between May 28 and June 11.

Dates and places are listed below and on www.snurl.com/editorspeaks. For more information about me, and to read the first 4 chapters of my Agatha-award winning book for writers, visit my publisher’s site, www.bellarosabooks.com.

Though I grew up in New York City, where I spent the first decade of my long publishing career, I’m now living in North Carolina. Usually when I visit my three grandchildren, I fly to Boston. This time, despite the wicked cost of gas, I’ll be driving the 2,000 miles round trip just to be able to give these workshops. I hope you’ll attend, let us meet, and take advantage of my having traveled to your area to share my editor's knowledge with you.

Sincerely,
Chris

Hi, Chris. How do you like North Carolina? I am tired of the dreary weather here in the Seattle area and was considering moving there. I have a few other states on my possibility list, also. I hear it's like Seattle but with more sunshine. Congrats on your retirement. I'm going to check out those four chapters. Thanks.
