I was sound asleep up til about 12:45 a.m. when knocking on my bedroom door woke me. I opened it expecting it to be my daughter with a bad dream. Instead found two police men guns drawn and flashlights shining in my face who told me the back door was wide open and the house alarm was blaring. (The panel for that is in the kitchen and really can't be heard upstairs in the bedroom. A call will be placed shortly to remedy that. )
So I stumbled down stairs with them to see what was up and found some one had pried open the back door. The alarm sounds as soon as the door is opened so they must have been scared off. About that time I apparently passed out - presumably from the shock.

Now I read a lot about crime, both in fiction and in the news. I am confronted with it on tv, in the movies, on the internet, in the newspaper, etc. Still I must admit I never really thought about it happening to me. The alarm has certainly paid for itself. And thank god I was wearing pajamas.

Oh no! That is so scary. Hope you get the alarm set up so you hear it but mostly I hope no one tries to break in again!

My family has been a victim of home invasion as well. At that time, we didn't have an alarm. I was upstairs sleeping along with my two young children. My husband was out of town that week and I think his truck being gone was noted by the thieves. The broke into the garage, then broke down the door between our garage and kitchen. Our house is so well-built that none of us heard a thing. Didn't find the door broke down until the next morning when I went to the laundry room to get my son's school clothes. The creeps had come inside, stole $3 (literally my son's milk money) off the counter, took a flashlight out of a glass-enclosed cupboard, and left out a different door. They set the flashlight on the stoop outside for us to find the next day. Needless to say, an alarm went in and a gun was purchased. And yes- I know the risks of the latter. I also know what it feels like to have strangers roaming your house while you and your babies are sound asleep. I'm glad you're alarm did the job! Blessings!

Oh, great last line. I wonder, would one pause for pants? So as not to offend the intruder. In case she is female. And brings charges.

Sorry to hear about the intrusion. The consolation (if there is one) is that it could have been worse (no PJs, for instance...). Of course, now you have an experience to match against the novels you read.
