I'm wondering what has happened to creativity in both movies and writing? It seems to me that there are plot ideas that are recycled uniquely and come across as different. Then there are CLONE ideas -- Da Vinci Code spin offs, re-made old movies with new characters, or rewritten books into modern day scripts for movies -- Shooter, the Point of Impact novel by Stephen Hunter brought up to date to feature the Gulf War, new era style sniper. It used to be I could go to movies or read books that used more creative thought and input to the old plot lines and made each more enjoyable. Now, I don't go to the movies because everything that needs to be seen is shown on the TV commercials or on cable documentaries about the filming of the movie. I miss the uniqueness of creativity in both movies and books.

You might ask where the creativity in blog topics has gone. Because this is an old old gripe.

Nothing's happened to creativity. It's still out there. Whether it comes to a multiplex near you is another matter.

Ever since there has been any sort of mass-market pop culture, people have been complaining about the "lack of creativity," and they always pine for the "good old days."

Well, here's the scoop. There's always been regurgitated crap out there, even in the "good old days." And the good stuff is still out there. And not always easily found. But it's still worth searching for.

Maybe you just need to be creative enough to find it.

I couldn't agree with you more on this. I believe one of the worst offenders is TV crime drama. For example, you will see a "rip off" on the headlines (can we say Law & Order?) or some particular theme will regenerate on different networks in the same week. It seems as if the writers are being lazy.

One thing though, with everything that is thrown at us today--being assaulted with media, radio, advertising, and celebrity-ism all day long, these same ideas are circulating in the common ether, and I've noticed that people come up with the same concept, miles apart, like a groundswell of opinion.

Whadduyouthink? I think so.
