A CHRISTMAS JOURNEY – G+
Perry, Anne – Standalone
This is a novella starring Aunt Vespasia, in her younger days. While attending an elegant Christmas houseparty in a country mansion, a young woman commits suicide. Another woman deemed responsible is forced on a pilgrimage, accompanied by Vespasia, through storms and snowdrifts to Northern Scotland to find the mother of the dead woman and, incidentally the truth behind the suicide.
It was nice not to have the Inner Circle or a political conspiracy. Although a bit heavy with virtue and morality, as her books seem to have become lately, no one creates sense of period or place as well as Ms. Perry.
