Young Mabel Finchurst is living with her aunt when a man walks into the church on Advent Day and slits his own throat. Thus begins a story of men battling for power and young girl who is part of a legend that is hundreds of years old and traveled from Italy from England.

I really wanted to like this book but was so disappointed in it. There were a lot of characters, none of whom I really got to know. I found the story very hard to follow in terms of time and place. The brutality was extreme and didn’t seem necessary. This is a book I just can’t recommend.
