One of the best, unkept secrets in Houston is The Final Twist, the Houston Chapter of Sisters in Crime, founded four years ago by Diana L. Driver, author of Ninth Lord of the Night.

Against the odds, and despite a membership scattered all over this very large and sprawling city, the chapter has grown, managing to not just survive, but to thrive.

TFT members are mostly published authors or aspiring authors--though we're proud to include in our membership a reviewer, a movie producer, a publisher and an editor--so our meetings tend to focus on the techniques of writing and researching. Our membership is diverse and not limited to mystery writers.

Under the vigorous leadership of our two past presidents, we've done our best to support the goals of Sisters in Crime, mysteries in general and our members in particular. We're a small group, but we manage to do a lot and have a lot of fun.

In addition to mostly monthly meetings (we meet in the library, so when it is closed for a holiday, we are, too), TFT had a big bash for the Sisters in Crime anniversary last year at various Borders Bookstores, finishing up with a big party at Murder By The Book.

We've gone to the shooting range to learn about firearms and hosted our first Signature Event: a Godiva Chocolate Party at Wade Wilson Art Gallery.

We're excited to be joining with Wade Wilson Art Gallery and Godiva Chocolates again this year, four our second Signature Event, to be held on August 24th.

And October 19th we're thrilled to be launching our chapter's first anthology, Dead & Breakfast, with a party at Murder by the Book.

Each month we try to feature one or more authors' new releases. This feature is open to any member of Sisters in Crime--though we can't always promise a feature in the month of your choice! We've got a long waiting list. :-)

While we are excited about all the things we do, we consider the mentoring of our member/writers to be our greatest accomplishment of the last four years. It's been a thrill to see several of our aspiring authors become published.
