Harris, Charlaine – 7th in series

First Sentence: The Shreveport Vampire Bar would be opening late tonight.

Telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse has been hired to protect against non-Vamps at the Vampire Queen of Louisiana at the Chicago Vampire Summit where the Queen must defend herself against charges of murdering her husband. Complicating the situation is that both Sookie’s boyfriend waretiger Quinn, and her ex-boyfriend vampire Bill will be there. But beyond the politics of the summit, there are protestors from the anti-vampire movement who would like the whole thing brought to an end.

I am such a fan of this series. For those of us who are fans of Butcher’s Harry Dresden, Green’s Nightside series or the early Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, these are for us. They are funny but gruesome. They are not light fluff but contain graphic violence. But Harris does such an excellent job of balancing the two elements; I look forward to each new book and put it at the top of my TBR stack when it arrives. I do recommend reading this series in order but, if you’re a fantasy fan, I do recommend this series.
