Don't get me wrong, I love the Miami Vice theme, the eighties had a large effect on me for better or worse. However, the best all time television theme song has to be

Hawaii Five-O

I love the drums, I love the horns. I love the shot zooming in a McGarret and then flipping 180 to show his face.

Great show great song.

The NCIS theme is pretty good too, as is the theme for Bones and Torchwood.

Favorites anyone?

RESCUE ME! Great theme song! Good show too.
I agree with Doug that a lot of the theme songs throw me into nostagia.

Hey Doug - I've got the Twilight Zone theme (by the Ventures!) and Route 66 both in the little jukebox thinggummy on my page.

I also love Mike Post's theme for The Rockford Files, and Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn.

Twilight Zone & the Night Stalker, as much because they let me instantly slide into flashbacks of the shows as for their standalone music value.

Route 66, including both the jazz instrumental by Nelson Riddle and the swing/pop vocal song.

Firefly's got a great song for a theme, and House used to have the original version of Teardrop by Massive Attack. Now that was cool.

I've also got a soft spot for the theme of Deep Space Nine, but don't tell anyone.
