I'm in an odd space and I'm wondering if anyone out there has been in here, too. I love Jeff Lindsay's "Dexter" novels and am reading the new "Dexter in the Dark" for review. A friend has been raving to me about the "Dexter" Showtime adaptations and since Showtime was offering a free weekend preview, I figured I'd check it ou. So last night I flopped on the sofa and watched several episodes back to back. Now, I adore Michael C. Hall, just loved him in "Six Feet Under." And I think everyone has done a good job of building on the books while keeping the foundation intact. But now, of course, I see Hall as Dexter, etc. etc. And that's not a bad thing, but... well, I guess I just should have been happy that my friend liked the show and that Showtime did right by Lindsay, and left it at that.

It is pretty gruesome but the dialogue and characterization are pretty true to the book. Which all in all is a plus, but I don't think I'll be watching anymore.

Funny, I haven't read the book, but have just seen the first few episodes of the show.

And it can be a real mistake to watch it with me or evil Kev, as we both have backgrounds dealing with psychology and behaviour disorders, as there are some things that are wrong. But I'm ranking it about a 7/10. If I went by accuracy alone, I wouldn't watch it. I can discount enough to appreciate some aspects, although in truth I find it a bit gruesome as a show for me.
