Graphic Novel Friday Stephen King's The Stand/Captain Trips

I have decided to make today an all Stephen King graphic novel day. After this thriller, I will post later on The Dark Tower /Treachery. I want to right off the bat thank all of you for messages telling me I should
start to read King’s full length novels .I will start to do that in 2011. Right
now I want to run through the graphic novels and then I will dive into that no
problem, so thanks for kind words and encouragement.

The Stand was a pleasant surprised for me. I had no idea prior to picking it up what the story was about. I read the inside cover and thought , why not, a storyline that has been used before, but lets see what
kind of twist he has to this story. The
plotline is simple and straight forward: the government is conducting an
experiment on a base in secret and they run into a problem, everybody that is
in touch with the new virus they are making dies, but one guy escapes the base
and tries to get his wife and child away from the area. On the way he infects
everyone he comes into contact with and then it goes on from there. Just like
the old Jermac commercial and they tell friends, that tell two friends, that
tell two friends. Just in this case they are spreading a virus that kills
people without regard and has no cure or antidote.

Okay , so what is the big deal about this. The big deal is that Stephen King is a genius, I know news flash. The graphic novel caries a different pace and feel then other stories with a similar plotline. It shows
people at their best and their worst when treating others: Compassion,
selfishness, the entire range of emotion. The way I see it, the virus he is
using in the graphic novel is a vehicle for many things and many reasons. An
unseen and unheard bad guy that is a silent and deadly killer, great stuff. The
artwork is outstanding, I enjoyed the added features at the end, this is the
total package. I don’t hesitate to recommend this to fans of Stephen King or
those like me that aren’t too much into the genre, he is that strong an author.
