Jack the Ripper is an intriguing character who has been written about in many ways by many people. As I read this book, I forgot that it was a fictional account of a true story. Brian did a lot of research into the Ripper murders so the book smacks of reality. The journal of Jack seems so true to the type of person he must have been, that it is easy to believe the words were his own and not those of a gifted author. Though I am squeamish when it comes to violence and tend to avoid books like this, I took a chance on it because of the fascinating concept of the infamous Ripper leaving an account of his crimes for future generations to see. I thought I could just skim over the gory details, but found myself so caught up in the drama that I read every word...while it was still daylight...and many hours before bedtime so as not to be plagued by nightmares. It was worth the journey into its pages.
