Nebraska Writers Guild Spring Conference 2011

Recently attended the NWG Spring Conference at Mahoney State Park.  Heard informative presentations by Alex Kava (mystery/thriller author), Mary Colgan (editor, Chronicle Books), and Terry Burns (author/agent, Hartline Agency).  Over 80 area writers participated.  Lots of useful information...important as publishing is changing so rapidly.

If you are an author deciding what to do with your next manuscript, ask yourself, "What is my goal?"  It makes a big difference if you are striving for fame and fortune or just eager to see your work in print.  Do you want your work considered for specific awards?  Are you reluctant to turn control of your work over to others?  Are you trying to get something ready to sell in a timely manner for a special event?

By the way, if you are travelling through Nebraska, you may want to make a peaceful stop (just off I-80, exit 426) at Mahoney State Park.  It is located along the Platte River in Ashland, Nebraska.  They have a wonderful lodge, restaurant, cabins, and meeting rooms.  Activities include a family aquatic center, theater, horseback riding, hiking and biking trails, activity center, miniature golf, a driving range, and more.  The buffet is awesome.  Here is a link if you are interested:
